File Creation How-to's

PLEASE READ through the file specifications to review a checklist of requirements before proceeding with the following steps.

  Creating a PostScript File with InDesign CS & CS2





IMPORTANT!
Before you begin make sure you have installed the DDAP PPD. Do NOT export your InDesign file to PDF. This will cause inconsistent results. Follow the steps below to create a PS file and then convert it to a PDF file using Acrobat Distiller.

Open your InDesign CS document

From the File menu select Document Setup

- Recommended page size for a single-page ad is Tabloid. This allows ample space for crop marks, the quality control strip, bleed, etc.

- Set Orientation to Portrait

Access the Swatches panel

- Check to see if there are any spot colors (indicated by a small square with a gray dot inside)

- Convert any spot colors to process

- After converting spot colors, save changes to the document

PreFlight

PreFlight

From the File Menu select PreFlight

- Select Fonts from the list on the left-hand side and verify that all fonts are loaded, and that there are no Truetype fonts

- Select links and images from the list on the left-hand side and verify that all images are “OK”

- Click cancel when done


Print Setup, General

Check Print Setup

From the File menu select Print

- Select “General” from the list on the left-hand side

- Set Printer to “PostScript File”

- Set PPD to “DDAPv3 PPD”

- Select “Setup” from the list on the left-hand side

- Set Paper Size to DDAP_Single or DDAP_Spread

- Verify that “Scale” is set to 100%.

Print Setup, Marks and Bleeds

- Select “Marks and Bleeds” from the list on the left-hand side

- Verify that no boxes are checked under “Marks”

- Using the CA templates, you will not need to set any bleeds

Print Setup, Ouput

- Select “Output” from the list on the left-hand side

- Verify that Color is set to “Composite CMYK”

Print Setup, General

Save PostScript File

- Click the “Save” button

- Name and save your file. Your file should have a .ps extension
