Jill Breitbarth

senior designer
Harvard University Press

Jill Breitbarth is senior designer at Harvard University Press, where she has worked for almost seventeen years. During Breitbarth's tenure in academic publishing (she previously worked at Yale University Press), she has been especially interested in working out innovative ways to synthesize and visually present difficult ideas. Her jackets and covers for HUP books have won New England Book Show awards and an AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers award, among other honors. Breitbarth's other visual interests include people-watching, rock collecting and travel-the legacy of a childhood spent overseas.

SooJin Buzelli

SooJin Buzelli is an award-winning creative director with fifteen years experience art directing and designing magazines. She is currently the senior vice president, creative director of Asset International where she designs and art directs many of Asset International's products, including Plansponsor, Planadviser, Plansponsor Europe and aiCIO magazines. She also is a board member of The Illustration Conference 7 (ICON7). Buzelli holds an Illustration BFA from Rhode Island School of Design.

Paul Gonzales

Paul Gonzales is a deputy design director for the features department at the Los Angeles Times. As such, he leads a team of designers in producing the newspaper's lively and creative Sunday Calendar Arts & Books, Travel and Health sections. In his twenty-plus-year career at the Times, he has won many awards for design, art direction and photo illustration from such prestigious organizations as Communication Arts, Print, SND and SPD. His collaboration with illustrators has also resulted in a number of award-winning pieces. Gonzales's quiet resolve and passion for design and illustration comes through loud and clear in his work. He is proud to be part of a core team that has helped develop the design of the Los Angeles Times into one of the most highly awarded in the world.

Scott McKowen

Punch & Judy Inc

Scott McKowen is an award-winning illustrator, graphic designer and art director. Born and raised in Michigan, he is based in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, where he operates the small design studio Punch & Judy Inc, which has created theatre posters and graphics for leading performing arts companies across North America. McKowen has illustrated a series of children's classics for Sterling Publishing, which now includes 32 titles. He has illustrated books and covers for Harper Collins, Marvel, Penguin, Quirk, Random House, St. Martins and Tor. McKowen specializes in scratchboard, an engraving medium in which white lines are carved into a black surface with a sharp blade; in 2009, Firefly Books published A Fine Line: Scratchboard Illustrations by Scott McKowen.

James Zucco

Barrie D'Rozario Murphy

James Zucco is an internationally-recognized advertising art director. Since graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 1996, Zucco has created award-winning work for blue-chip clients in almost every industry. He is currently an associate creative director at Barrie D'Rozario Murphy in Minneapolis, which he joined after years of working with Barrie and D'Rozario at Fallon Worldwide. His work has been featured in the Cannes Festival, Communication Arts, D&AD, New York Art Directors Club and the One Show. His commercial for Travelers Insurance received an Emmy nomination in 2006, and two of his commercials for United Airlines are in the permanent collection at MoMA. Zucco lives in Edina, Minnesota, with his wife, Bethany, and their yellow Labrador, Roxy.
