Art for Health is a partnership of artists and medical doctors working together to improve health care in under-served communities around the world. Artists travel to Rush University Medical Center’s global health clinics, spend time with the doctors and their patients and express their experiences with creative media, which is then auctioned to raise funds for Rush’s Global Health Program. The Art For Health book series was created by photographers Brian Wetzstein and Sebastian Kowalski and photographer/art director Marek Hosek, each of whom accompanied one Rush medical team to a different region. Hosek’s design studio mhdezign created the books to showcase the images from these global voyages along with detailed line work that provides information about the areas where the clinics are located. All the paper was generously donated by Neenah Paper, and designers mixed Astrobright colored paper with Classic Crest white paper to give the books an unusual look and feel. The three books come inside a clever case which is printed in silver on Neenah Epic Black double-thick cover paper. The benefit has raised over $100,000 in three years, and will help send medical teams to the Dominican Republic and Haiti in 2014.
