Document: Skins magazine

Publications, Education

Document: is a new magazine created by students at the Shintaro Akatsu School of Design (SASD) at the University of Bridgeport, in Connecticut. Produced by graphic design seniors and a handful of students from majors such as English and Mass Communications, each issue documents diverse cultural responses to universally important themes. As a creative work of UB's multicultural community, Document: offers a snapshot of students’ wide-ranging interests, concerns, fears and hopes. The magazine seeks to be stimulating and progressive while promoting global dialogue, intercultural understanding and student voices.

This first issue, entitled Document: Skins, offers insight into a wide variety of skin-related topics including tattoos, fingerprints, passing, animal skins, idioms, natural skin care, albinism, face painting, protective gear, plastic surgery, racial identity and more. The magazine is produced in an edition of 750 copies, with a black-and-white interior and a color cover. For the special edition of 150, the magazine was wrapped in a letterpress printed poster/wrapper.
