Dumpling Dynasty product/package design

Packaging, Consumer

By concentrating on useful, household tin items, U.K.-based Wu & Wu created this range of arresting, design-led objects with a contemporary, fresh and unique perspective on vintage Chinese packaging styles. The Dumpling Dynasty product line is the result of years spent living in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, wandering the flea markets and stores and breathing-in the unique, crazy palettes and complex, multi-layered visual styles. Illustrator Fiona Hewitt’s product-specific art, with layers of detail (the printing designs on the shoe polish lids and branding the spools of thread), dances with nostalgic themes of childhood adventure and 1940’s and ’50’s Chinese ephemera while referencing vintage Chinese packaging design and propaganda art. The line—which sold-out instantly when released across Europe in September—launched in the U.S. in January.
