La Principal identity

Arutza Rico Onzaga’s design for the restaurant hearkens to Colombian culture and mythology.

Bogotá, Colombia–based restaurant La Principal offers an updated take on Colombia’s most popular recipes and flavors. The restaurant’s branding, created by designer Arutza Rico Onzaga, presents a visual, modern interpretation that reflects its dishes. “The name ‘La principal’ refers to the main street of many Colombian towns,” says Onzaga, “and for that reason, I chose to work with playful typographic forms and fluorescent colors that represents the cheerful Colombian culture.” A highlight of the restaurant’s interior design include a wall mural that captures the mythical elements of Colombian agricultural history.
