Table Mountain National Park outdoor campaign
Out-of-Home Ads, Public Service
The forests in South Africa’s Table Mountain National Park are destroyed every summer by raging wild fires (a large portion of which start with a human spark of stupidity or carelessness). Unfortunately the local fire department lacks the funding to address the situation with an education campaign. Animal Farm, a creative consultancy in Cape Town came to the rescue, with a project funded by Cape Union Mart, an outdoor clothing manufacturer and Chubb Fire, a fire extinguisher company. It commissioned The Carpenters Shop, a Non Governmental Organization that teaches woodworking skills to the homeless and unemployed, to carve 65 fire extinguishers from recently-cleared, invasive, non-indegineous trees. The extinguishers (each with an instruction label about how people can prevent fires) were mounted to remaining alien trees throughout the park, with a focus on fire hot spots, picnic areas and along all major walking trails.
