About, Well, Everything
What site do you look at every day? About.com. I visit it weekly, sometimes daily. The site is full of informative tips on travel, entertainment, education, style, jobs, health, electronics—and pretty much everything else. The breadth of content available, from just a simple search, is amazing. Not to mention the articles and suggested reading tips pertaining to the topic.
What's the subject/topic of it? It's an online database containing informative articles and content on just about everything. It's practical, easy to navigate and full of the content you want to read. You can even dive into daily updated information pertaining to your hometown. It's a nice break from the graphically rich sites that, in my line of work, I look at all day long.
What do you really like about it? I always find the answers I need in a quick and easy format, with no distractions.
Technically what makes it work? The interface is clear and easy to navigate and offers the ability to access all site information with a single click.
What's your job?/Where do you work? Manager of creative, interactive at Turner Broadcasting (TurnerClassicMovies.com, TCMdb.com, TCMunderground.com, MovieMorlocks.com and TCMMobile.
How did you get involved in this industry? My first career opportunity after receiving my BFA was with an eBusiness firm that supported mid-sized companies in online branding, marketing, Web application development and package solutions integration. My role was to design Web media as it related to client objectives as well as lead the creative department in the development.
What's your biggest Web (design) turn-off? Long load times and the unnecessary use of Flash.
Who, in this industry (or not), has been your biggest inspiration? Fine artist Steve Penley.
What do you do in your spare time? Run, play tennis and golf, and do volunteer work to benefit the Atlanta Children's Shelter, Center for Puppetry Arts and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
What product/gadget can you not live without? My mobile phone.
What's your dream computer set-up? For ALL creatives to use Macs.
