BART - Bay Area Rapid Transit

Government, Consumer

BART wanted to develop community around its customers and communicate the great information it had to offer. To achieve these goals, the site takes advantage of how commuters, leisure travelers, airport travelers and out-of-towners look for information online.

By simplifying the navigation, exposing the relevance and relationship of the riders to their specific stations and combining a compelling visual experience with a unique set of interactions, the site effectively reinforces BART’’s position as a trusted travel partner in the Bay Area.

• The site took twelve months to produce.

• Thousands of files sit in five different site levels.

• A “find closest station” module generates walking, transit, and/or driving directions to a particular station

• Interactive station maps show riders a wealth of nearby information including ATMs, bookstores, restaurants, tourist attractions.

• In the six months after launch, BART saw a 52 percent increase in home page views.

• In 2009, BART.gov had 51.2 million page views on 11 million user sessions.
