The Fox Theatre Institute (FTI) is the only comprehensive theater preservation organization in the U.S. and the premiere resource for historic theater restoration and revitalization in Georgia. It offers breakthrough mentoring programs, preservation expertise, operational counseling and educational opportunities to motivate and nurture theaters seeking guidance.
This site launched to educate theater owners about techniques
to successfully restore, operate and maintain their historic structures. The end goal was to create a movement of progress that will foster arts development,
preservation standards, community building and economic development for
historic theaters as well as sustain arts communities throughout
Georgia.
The public side of the site explains the institute to the general public and introduces the theaters in the pilot project group; the main content feature is an interactive map of Georgia that enables
visitors to investigate the different historical theaters and learn
about each town's demographics and the impact that the theaters have
had in the area. The private side keeps theater owners connected so they can utilize the collective knowledge of the group to address issues that arise in their own theaters.
• The ASP.net platform was used for the content management system.
• The CMS allows FTI administrators to approve, deny and manage members of the site.
• A 30-second teaser clip entices users to view the 6-minute video.
• A built-in FLV player was modified so it didn’t look like the out-of-the-box player.
