webpick of the week

Imperial College London Centenary

Education, Public Service

This microsite celebrates the college’s 100-year history by announcing ongoing celebrations, chronicling a year-long fundraising campaign and collecting stories from alumni. It has a sophisticated gallery-like presence without being intimidating, overly academic or off-putting. It also has thorough content (with space for more) coupled with an intuitive navigation and interactivity that beckons visitors to fill-in the blanks with personal recollections.

• Timelines are always a great mechanism for presenting historical content. This one not only provides an easy to view summary of events, it fits the college's definitive moments into a broader societal perspective and offers a level of detail that isn’t usually included.

• Did You Know? is a simple, single page in the Present section. Whether it’s because they’ve done a nice job choosing interesting little facts or because we're enamored with the page layout, we know one thing: We like it.

• With a nice allusion to the site’s call-out for content submissions, both the homepage and the timeline create a sense of “filling-in” as content loads.

• Within the first two weeks after the launch, the site received nearly 8,000 visitors and has averaged approximately 2,000 a week since then.
