Juneau Icefield Research Program

Travel/Tourism, Public Service

The Juneau Icefield Research Program provides education and field training in the earth system sciences and contributes to the monitoring of Alaskan glaciers. Each summer since 1946 the program has hosted approximately 100 students, professors and research scientists who traverse 150 miles of the Juneau Icefield by ski and on foot. These groups have aided in providing the longest continuous research of any glacier in the Western Hemisphere and along with donors, they are the audience for this site.

• Great colors and background graphics give the site a fresh-air vibe that’s not only appropriate but surprisingly transportive.

• The developers handled dynamic content without constant refreshes by incorporating framesets to divide the navigation and body content. It’s a simple solution that’s both effective and appropriate for what’s essentially a 20-page site with an equal number of links.

• A front-and-center donation link is the only plea this site makes for money and the only indication that the site supports a non-profit group.
