Turner’s movie database is a comprehensive online resource for classic (and newly released) films. The Turner Classic Movies channel has become synonymous with classic films; so it’s no surprise, that with this online database, the network’s also cinched the title as a go-to Web site. Anyone who appreciates classic films, or movies in general, is going to love it. The remainder of the population will simply value it for what it is: a vast, beautifully organized and easy to navigate archive of movie-related content. A large part of this site’s appeal lies in its graphic style. It’s a pleasant, visually low-tech, Flash-inclusive site, with muted colors (that bring to mind the first full-color films) and graphic divisions that make it easy to browse and read.
• Content includes a link to current eBay auctions selling selected movie titles; the ability to request and vote on films that should be released on DVD; and, allowing registered visitors to contribute to the database.
• The calendar listing of movies currently playing on the Turner Classic Movies station was built with e-mail reminder functionality.
• From start to finish, the site build took approximately eighteen months—most of that time was spent working on backend data.
