As part of a campaign for fabric company Sunbrella’s marine line, Uncharted Waters presents the stories of US athletes in marine sports. Designed and developed by creative firm Wray Ward, the site serves as the campaign’s main destination, encompassing a tremendous amount of content. HTML5 background videos on the site create a strong visual interest for visitors, but also serve as the foundation for the site’s interactions. Social media posts from the various athletes offer a firsthand perspective of their journeys to the Olympics; the site displays these posts through a custom Google map that uses marker-clustering algorithms. Wray Ward developed the site with a mobile-first philosophy that progressively scales based on the visitor’s browser capabilities. Although the main Uncharted Waters campaign isn’t due to launch until spring, the site has already generated heavy traffic and recognition with its impressive content.
