Background: A successful and growing telecoms business based in Brighton, United Kingdom, 01T needed to refine its brand to reflect its ambitions. We worked with 01T to focus its propositions and create a new visual language. 01T provides bespoke data networks for sectors in the pharmaceutical and gaming industries, targeting the operations and IT teams within those organizations.
Reasoning: The proposition we created the design around was the sense of focus. 01T does one thing—design data networks—and does it very well. The visual element of a single strand of purpose runs through the brand materials, and in the film, it emerges from the noise of data. This strand also references the cables that carry data, the world of information under our feet that we never usually see.
Challenges: Knowing when to stop. We could have experimented and played with this visual language forever.
Favorite details: How the visual language is integrated into the day-to-day running of 01T. We re-designed a lot of complex forms, but kept the beauty of the visual language present.
Visual influences: We looked at the cables—how they coil and twist and straighten and snake around our planet—and we looked at the work of a few Swiss architects, at their clean lines and characterful minimalism.
Specific demands: Alex Lower, Lulu Lower and Daniel Deak—the team heading up 01T—all have a progressive approach and a desire to do something different in their sectors. They commissioned us to be The Beautiful Meme, and that always makes things easier.
