After creating successful and award-winning Art Institute of Boston catalogs for several years, design studio Visual Dialogue (Boston, Massachusetts) turned to the people who know the school best—current students—with help designing the 2010 edition. A design class, that normally focuses on real-world projects for non-profits, tackled the viewbook from the perspective of both designers and target audience. The students were able to experience all aspects of a typical project—from the initial client input meeting, to collaborations with the research strategist, copywriter and photographers, to the concept presentations and final production. It’s too early to measure the results of the new viewbook, but it makes a great story for the admissions team when they meet with potential students.
