Every year, the town of Bregenz, Austria, hosts Bregenzer Festepiele, a performing arts festival that presents operas and musical dramas on several stages in and around Lake Constance. Design firm moodley brought the festival into the modern age with an innovative rebranding system. Artistic collages represent the specific performances of the festival with thematic images displayed in striking, contrasting colors. A warped B provides the main element of Bregenzer Festepiele’s identity; its abstraction reflects the rippling of Lake Constance’s surface, providing a visual association between the lake and the festival for viewers. The identity appeared on many touch points, from sales packaging to playbills for each opera.
Sarofsky’s animated titles for the festival present a visual smorgasbord of iconic design styles.
