“As part of a series about the arts in Minnesota published by The McKnight Foundation, Bright Stars highlights stories about art in rural Minnesota. One of the artists had mentioned that he loved to work in the country because he could see the stars at night,” said creative director Stefan Hartung. “There was the cover idea! Laser-cut holes in the shape of the state represent the artists’ stars. The first eight pages are a collage of studio and installation photos that give the reader an overview of the multitude and depth of art forms in the hinterland. It had the added benefit of bringing down the printing costs. The rest of the book is 2-color; after all, this is a nonprofit client.” 84 pages, perfect-bound, 51⁄2 × 81⁄2.
