With design and editorial content by Construct London, the Maybourne Hotel Group launches the Maybourne Papers—quarterly newspapers for The Connaught, The Berkeley and Claridge’s (shown). With a circulation of 30,000 for the first issue, each of the three newspapers has a distinct tone but shared design elements (all are printed in a mini tabloid format on recyled paper) that quietly reinforce their relationship; they are available at the hotels and mailed to regular guests. Claridge’s is printed in black only with a foil cover and features a bold, elegant typographic style using a combination of Bryant and Pertpetua with illustrative, exaggerated and, in many cases, especially created typographic headlines inspired by Sang Bleu magazine. The first issue features the launch of Claridge’s collaboration with Dior, the Holly Golightly breakfast at Tiffany collaboration, a who’s who and what’s what in London this Christmas and a reflection on the magic of Claridge’s, from Alex James’s study of Luxury to the science of mood. Construct is currently beginning work on Issue 2, which will have an enlarged circulation of 50,000 across all three papers.
