Engineers and artists are generally accepted as opposites. Engineering is utilitarian; art is creative. But at Etsy, these worlds collide with beautiful results; there is no delineation between code and craft. To prove it, the company used the vernacular of software engineering to showcase real Etsy goods, telling the Code as Craft story through the lens of Etsy’s seller community. This campaign helped introduce San Francisco to a different kind of tech company; one that provides its employees with an environment that inspires great work, and enables impactful contribution toward making commerce a more humane enterprise.
