This video for the French band Husbands mixes stark text displays with electronic beats in a “loving ode to fonts,” illuminating the DIY/maker culture of the design firm Cauboyz. Drawing from their logotype work in advertising, the team built a set, not in the digital world, but by hand, physically mounting each of the words on a backdrop and using synchronized lighting to create the effects they wanted. “It was important to us to create real letters, instead of doing it with digital effects. We love the fact that we couldn't control everything,” said Cauboyz partners Bertrand and Philippe. “During execution and boxes construction, we weren’t even sure if it was going to work…what it was going to look like? Finally it was ok, the exposure was good, and we just needed to play it live, with rhythm, by pushing the light buttons.”
