Les Garagistes is an iconoclastic winery collective in Portland, Oregon. Because they take the production of top-quality wines seriously, it was time for them to have labeling to match their outlook. Local design studio Grapheon Design came up with a solution that uses images of iconic tools and parts, that might be found in a mid-century French garage, and grafts them onto elegant, boutique packaging. Oil cans, spark plugs, vintage wrenches... the tongue-in-cheek branding conjures the luxury of fine wine while undermining the pretension often associated with it. Also gone are the PVC closures that top many wine bottles; in their place are earth-friendly “tax” strips that make it easy to identify wines when they’re in a rack.
