Bernard Rudofsky designed buildings, books, fabrics and footwear. For an exhibition of his work at the Getty Research Institute, the challenge was to display a large volume of objects and a wide variety of media types, and to convey that they were all created by one person. It also required a space that would capture his ideas and unique style and demonstrate his contemporary relevance. The graphic identity, emphasizing the concept “Lessons,” was derived from the Getty’s highlighted research notes of Rudofsky’s writings and limited space of the gallery forced the design of the exhibit to expand upward.
