In order to inspire the first generation that will travel to Mars, tech company Lockheed Martin turned to London-based visual effects company Framestore and ad agency McCann New York to bring the Red Planet closer than it has ever been before. Framestore transformed a classic school bus into an immersive, moving field trip where passengers can see, hear and feel what the surface of Mars is like—without any headsets.

This first-ever shared group virtual reality experience welcomed its initial riders from the Washington, D.C. area, students who thought they were going on a normal field trip. But as the windows transformed to reveal the Martian landscape, Framestore surprised them with a field trip unlike any other. By creating this first-of-its-kind technology to bring Mars to Earth, Lockheed Martin, Framestore and McCann inspired a young generation to realize how much further they can truly go.
