Background: LÔCÔ Art Market is a collaborative pop-up platform in Ho Chi Minh City that connects independent makers, local brands and the broader creative community. Our purpose is to celebrate Vietnamese creative energy by providing a dynamic, community-built space for exchanging ideas and exhibiting work. The project targets design-conscious consumers, creative enthusiasts and supporters of local craft who seek a vibrant, approachable cultural experience.
Design thinking: To reflect the market’s collaborative spirit, we conceptualized LÔCÔ as a dynamic factory where individual creators and processes come together. We anchored the identity around a “ready-to-ship package,” utilizing raw cardboard textures, high-visibility packing tape and layered shipping labels to celebrate the imperfect perfection of the creative journey. We balanced this organized chaos by pairing a rigid, monospaced typographic grid with shifting, stacked-box logo letterforms and spontaneous handwritten marks. This logistics-driven aesthetic allowed us to seamlessly scale the identity from digital screens to the physical event, creating a bustling, immersive atmosphere that championed the makers.
Challenges: Designing a highly flexible visual system that multiple teams and collaborators could easily scale. Because LÔCÔ is a shared, community-built platform, the identity had to adapt seamlessly across digital touchpoints, diverse vendor booths and large-scale physical event spaces. This allowed collaborators to quickly produce on-brand, randomized typographic assets, ensuring the imperfect perfection of the identity always felt intentional rather than accidental.
Favorite details: We are most proud of the deep collaborative spirit between our design team and the LÔCÔ team. Rather than a traditional client-agency relationship, we worked as a unified unit to build a shared platform. This synergy let us achieve the absolute best for the festival, ensuring the visual identity authentically elevated the experience for the entire creative community.
Visual influences: Our primary visual influence was the ready-to-ship package, a completed carton bearing the marks of tape, labels and handling. We viewed this as the exact moment a finished product is prepared for the customer, visually marking the culmination of an active production line. It serves as a powerful metaphor for the creative process itself, reflecting the entire journey from raw manufacturing and assembly to the final moment an artist shares their finished work with the public.
Specific project demands: The specific demand that made this project both uniquely challenging and highly compelling was the collaboration with the client team, which is entirely art-and-design-focused. On one hand, it made the ideation phase exhilarating; they immediately embraced bold, unconventional concepts like the logistics and factory metaphor. On the other hand, we were essentially designing for other designers, meaning the execution had to be flawless. It required a rigorous balance between high-level conceptual storytelling and hyper-realistic, functional application. Navigating the passionate perspectives of so many strong creative minds pushed our team to refine every detail, turning intense creative debates into a highly rewarding synergy.
