Responses by Rai Botey and Forma, graphic design/art direction
Background: Trained in France at the prestigious Ecole Ferrandi, Eran Mayer runs a successful bakery in Paris, which was ranked as one of the city’s top ten baguettes. He has decided to establish himself in Barcelona and wanted to open a new high quality boulangerie (bakery) in the neighborhood of Gracia. The purpose of this project was to design the visual identity for Mayer, Eran Mayer’s high-quality French boulangerie opening in Barcelona. For the development of this project, we partnered with graphic designer Rai Botey and interior designers Conti, Cert.
Reasoning: We wanted to relate the bread to craft, as something that has been done the same way for centuries. Making bread takes time, patience and knowledge.
Challenges: Finding a non-cliché concept that could be related to bread and France. The brief mentioned that the client did not want to look too French.
Visual influences: People can see both Botey and Forma’s taste for “under-designed” design due to the color, font and layout decisions. Combining this with something traditionally ornamental, such as mosaics, is what gives this brand its visual identity.
Favorite details: The outside mosaic. It is not every day that you get to design one of those and see it come to life!
Time constraints: Time constraints did not affect the project. We had enough time to work with the client and the interior design studio.
