The McKnight Foundation’s dedication to communities takes on an interesting shape in the non-profit’s recently released report on communities in exurban, also known as edge, residential areas. It encourages leaders of outlying areas to create community where they live, rather than relying on nearby urban centers. With a die-cut hole through its center, Minneapolis design agency, HartungKemp transformed the report and its recommendations into a memorable reader experience. Pointedly provocative, the design and layout spurs people to open it while the copy reinforces a primary message of empowerment and drives home a central theme: “As a region, we must manage growth thoughtfully around our urban core.”
