Background: We had to make a one-minute thirty-second ad for a genuinely awesome product during a seriously messed up time. We had no idea how to do that, so, we did this.
Reasoning: Be sensitive to the cultural situation without losing Mint Mobile’s authentic voice. And don’t use a slow piano track.
Challenges: We want to say the most challenging thing was getting Ryan Reynolds to do his own hair and makeup because it was genuinely a disaster, but the limitations to commercial production brought on by the global pandemic probably wins here.
Visual influences: In what has to be an advertising first, our visual influence was every slide presentation we’ve ever sat through in our lives. We’d like to thank all the Powerpointers out there. You know who you are.
Specific demands: Working with Ryan always makes things easier. He’s generous, smart, funny and not a bad actor.
Anything new: Like a lot of people, we got a crash course in working remotely.
