Rising Costa Rican singer/songwriter MishCatt plays with graphic overlays of shapes and colors in an energetic music video for her single “Another Dimension.” Inspired by the do-it-yourself aesthetic of 1980s stop-motion animation, seen in such videos as Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer,” MishCatt (aka Michelle Gonzalez) put her personal touch on “Another Dimension” by working closely with her collaborators, from editors Zack Kash and Dan O’Sullivan to motion graphics artist Colin Kohler of Los Angeles–based production company The Uprising Creative. She codirected the video with Warren Alexander and Colin Thomas, crafting the graphic shapes and shooting the stop-motion footage herself. For every minute of hard work, MishCatt and her team were rewarded with another second of performance perfectly juxtaposed with VFX. All those seconds coalesced into another dimension of fun and play.
