What if the foot had evolved to play soccer? This question drives a new film by London-based FutureDeluxe for the launch of Nike’s new Magista II soccer cleats. Working with Nike’s global soccer team, FutureDeluxe also created numerous retail assets for the cleats, which were inspired by data research—down to the graphics on the upper—and designed using scientific testing. The Magista II’s design is about evolution of heightened sensory touch and traction—a natural fit for a digital agency that loves marrying technology with creative production to find new aesthetics and design techniques.
FutureDeluxe combined motion capture data with 3-D body scans of German soccer player Mario Götze to highlight how the cleats’ new sensory upper helps players instantly connect ball to brain. The final film is technical, inspired by data and scientific soccer knowledge without feeling cold. The film unfolds in stylized and dynamic motion, just like the Magista II cleats and the athlete wearing them.
