Acclaimed Canadian chef David Lee relaunched his Toronto restaurant Nota Bene with a new look and menu. For the restaurant, design studio Blok Design created a comprehensive identity system that works with the physical space, featuring a marriage of natural and contemporary elements by interior design firm +tongtong. Classic typography lends itself to the stature of Nota Bene’s iconic brand, and collaged imagery from photography and fine art evokes the raw sense of craft of Lee’s process. Blok Design applied the imagery to different elements of the identity system in various ways, bisecting images that appear whole on other pieces. A comprehensive menu system utilizes imagery, text and variations in paper size to add movement and flow, building Nota Bene’s wit and character.
