The 88-year-old Danish pharmaceutical firm Novo Nordisk, a world leader in diabetes care, recently renovated a 500,000-square-foot facility in Princeton, New Jersey, to serve as its new North American headquarters. The site is situated on 99 acres of land beside a 5-acre lake, a tranquil, natural setting for the firm’s 2,000 U.S. employees. The indoor environment is equally inspiring, thanks to a comprehensive graphics program by Poulin + Morris. The design helps staff navigate the vast facility with a color-coding system that breaks the site into five zones, each designated by a different color. Bold patterns representing molecular compositions of insulin are prominently integrated into wall murals, glass entrances and glass partitions—a celebration of Novo Nordisk’s remarkable innovation and history in diabetes care. A modular sign panel system uses a pattern based on elements from the periodic table to display the room-numbering system, and large-scale floor numbers and wayfinding information appear within wall murals. Poulin + Morris also created branding programs for the headquarters’ two dining facilities: Lakeview, a cafeteria boasting scenic views of the adjacent lake, and a self-service grab-and-go spot called The Market.
