Founded in 1991 by Portland artists as a creative resource, today Plazm is an award-winning design firm led by creative directors Joshua Berger and Niko Courtelis. The annual Plazm magazine publishes challenging and innovative art, design, cultural and literary works, and is distributed worldwide. The current 30th issue takes on the theme “Born Again.” In this issue, Plazm takes inspiration in the hope that people and ideas can be born again. Filmmaker David Lynch goes full circle, back to the art form he originally practiced: painting. Photographer Lori Waselchuck bears witness to the inmates living and dying in Louisiana’s infamous state penitentiary, Angola. Daniel Heyman “re-humanizes” the enemy combatants of the Middle East in his text-dense visual art. Arthur Bradford tells the story of an old man who falls off a rooftop. Plazm is happy to report someone is there to pick him up.
