The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study boasts a rich legacy. Formerly a women’s college, it shed its name, the Radcliffe College, after its merger with Harvard University in 1999. Today, the Radcliffe Institute is an interdisciplinary center for learning and scholarship, defined by a fellowship program that has welcomed big thinkers from current Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren to Pulitzer Prize–winning writer Viet Thanh Nguyen. Hired to rebrand and redesign the iconic center’s magazine, Modus Operandi Design—the Rockport, Massachusetts-based studio specializing in editorial design—tackled the pages of the biannual publication with strong typography, sleek layouts and crisp photography. Between the magazine’s covers, revitalized pages introduce you to the salient issues being thought about and shared by figures at today’s Radcliffe Institute.
