“Australians consume more olive oil per person than any other country outside Europe. Western Australian producer Piquant Blue recognized the opportunity to launch a mainstream Extra Virgin Olive Oil into supermarkets,” said Kate Davis, project manager at Perks Design Partners. “We were chosen to name and create the new brand. To differentiate the new brand, we explored a more contemporary Australian name and design. Traditionally the premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil category in supermarkets had been dominated by European brands, with conventional names and labeling. Piquant Blue wanted to take a more innovative approach. Red Island evokes the rich color of Australian soils. The accompanying illustration of the outline of our continent is expressed as a drizzle of oil. Together they combine to depict both the origin and attributes of the product in a stylish and memorable way.”
