Digital agency Instrument partnered with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to develop and launch the museum’s new flagship mobile app, titled The Met. The app is designed to be a simple, elegant, easy-to-use starting point to engage with the Museum and its art, exhibitions and events. In-app cues, which were designed to require minimal explanation and avoid unnecessary walkthrough screens, educate users through subtle animation. Motion and animation in the app heighten users’ delight and understanding, and help bring life and personality to the app. A global navigation icon orientates users within the app, offering a one-tap overview of its seven sections to ensure a user is never lost. To give the app its approachable, human voice, messaging is inserted throughout the user’s journey to offer context and information. Within its first two weeks, The Met app was downloaded more than 100,000 times, and has been named among the “Best New Apps” in the Apple App Store.
