The Pittsburgh Citizen is an online citizen journalism Web site, focused on local government transparency issues. Pittsburgh-based Bearded Studio was responsible for the name, the branding and the development of its news site. To help promote the launch of the site, Bearded helped The Public Square Project, during which they printed a promotional piece, in public, on a 19th-century foot-powered press. The resulting letterpress piece instructs event attendees to use their Twitter accounts to report the event live; the tweets of hundreds of volunteer journalists were displayed on The Pittsburgh Citizen.
