In design firm Mucho’s first meeting with its client, the University of California, the designers admitted that nobody really reads annual reports. Instead, Mucho suggested that the UC do a simple, highlight-reel version of the report, as well as a detailed, longer version. The smaller booklet is attached to the front of the main annual report, and the website allows users to navigate between the long and short versions. On mobile devices, the user only receives the highlight version. Mucho worked very closely with London-based writer Mike Reed for the text. The result is an annual report that is creative and unusual for an academic institution—more fun, engaging and easy to read.
