Woody at 100: The Woody Guthrie Centennial Collection, is a 150-page 12 x 12 book with 57 songs on 3 CDs, photos and artwork representing the breadth of Guthrie’s creative output. Most people know at least one of Woody Guthrie’s iconic songs (“This Land is Your Land”) but for this compilation, celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings wanted to paint a more complete picture of the artist. To represent the direct nature of his music, Boston-based Visual Dialogue (which has worked with Smithsonian Folkways Recording for almost 20 years) used a life-size, never-before-seen photo of Guthrie on the cover. Inside, the collection of artifacts provide context for the songs and show the breadth of the musician’s creative output.
