When YETI pioneered the premium cooler category, it cultivated an immediate following amongst diehard outdoorswomen and men. More than an extraordinary cooler, YETI became a signifier of a way of life: a shared passion for the wild.

In the second of a two-part series created for the National Geographic Channel, Austin-based ad agency McGarrah Jessee introduced a broader audience to the YETI brand through the eyes of modern-day explorer Jim Shockey. Hunter, adventurer, anthropologist and lover of all things wild—it’s not hyperbole to say that Shockey is a living legend. He’s published over 1,000 articles, taking readers along with him on his travels and teaching us all how to yearn for what’s over the next mountain.

“We want to compel more people to get outside,” says McGarrah Jessee creative director Tim Cole. “Our generation needs to experience the wild to help protect it. And in turn, we need to pass the wonders of the wilderness on to our kids so they can help keep as much of our planet wild as possible.”

This “Shockey” spot is a companion to the “Flip Pallot” spot, which ran on the National Geographic Channel earlier this year. Through the stories of Shockey, Flip Pallot and other brand ambassadors, YETI seeks to inspire people to go out and experience the wild.
