Duration: Almost four years.
Staff: Me.
Education: The American University in Washington, DC and Portfolio Center in Atlanta.
Cultural Influences: I try to set aside at least two hours each day and read something that is not directly related to my work.
Environment: I work in a studio at the back of the loft I share with my wife, Sarah, and our son, Nate. We live a few blocks from downtown Pittsburgh in a neighborhood called the Strip District. It’s a mix of fresh produce, meat and fish markets, restaurants, pubs, trains, trucks, cranes, industrial buildings and warehouses—an incredibly interesting place to walk around and watch from six stories up. Across the street from our building is the best deli in the city. On the opposite corner is a methadone clinic.
Philosophy: The toughest thing when running a design studio is not to grow” and "We all work too much"—both Tibor Kalman.
Concept is the foundation that solidifies Joseph Rafferty's photography.
