Duration: I started shooting while I was freelancing as an art director for Team One. I couldn't find the imagery I wanted, so I shot it. That led to my first assignment: shooting for Ritz-Carlton in Vietnam. That was 2005.
Staff: Having been an advertising creative on hundreds of commercials during my fifteen-plus years in the business, I know how important it is to surround yourself with a great crew. And I have a fantastic crew that I work with, starting with my producer-extraordinaire, Cathy Wilson, who makes it all happen and keeps it running smoothly.
Education: Ancient Greek and Latin Literature, Dartmouth College, although, without question, the most important lessons in life I've learned from my wife and two young daughters.
Cultural Influences: I have many influences, but if there is one person that is greatly influencing me right now at this moment in time it would be Irving Penn. I want to be just like him. That is, I want to be able to photograph anything and transform it into art—like he did. And I want to get better with age and be shooting when I'm in my 90s—like he did. Irving Penn was a god.
Environment: Seamus Heaney wrote, "Poetry has the ability to redress spiritual imbalance. It's a powerful counterweight to oppressive forces." In my own tiny way, I would like my work to redress spiritual imbalance too.
Philosophy: My dad told me, "Do what you love and the money will follow."
