Location: London, United Kingdom.
Duration: Illustrating since 2010.
Education: BA in graphic design with honors, University of Brighton
Cultural Influences: I have a passion for collecting vintage ephemera and textile patterns. I particularly love visiting charity shops, car boot sales and museums—anything that brings together an eclectic range of interesting objects and curiosities.
Artistic Influences: I admire the more playful artists of history such as Man Ray, Charlie Harper, Matisse, Hannah Hoch and William Morris.
Big break: I was asked to create seven illustrations for a supplement for Design Week. It was a great opportunity as it allowed me to create a lovely series that had visual continuity and a strong style. The art director was really great to work with as he allowed me to be quite free with my ideas and interpretations.
Work environment: I share a large studio with eight other people in an old fabric warehouse. Throughout the building there are many other illustrators, designers and photographers that I admire. I feel very lucky to be there.
Technique: The foundation of my practice is mixing analog and digital media—both on screen and with a scalpel to create playful, colorful and dynamically composed illustrations. I love to mix textures and work in many layers to create work that has a handmade, almost nostalgic feel, yet is also contemporary.
Philosophy: Do what you love and eventually someone will pay you for it.
