Duration: Two years.
Staff: Just me with the help of some very supportive and talented friends and colleagues. For commercial projects, I have a lovely team of hair and makeup, stylists and designers.
Education: I am always learning, but officially I have a BFA in photography from Savannah College of Art and Design and an AA from Bard College at Simon's Rock.
Cultural Influences: For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by children's stories, fantasy lands and other times. The ideas behind my work originate from many places but usually start with dreams I have had and things I have seen and am inspired by: books (fairy tales, children's stories, fables, myths and the classics), film, fashion, design, illustration, interiors, nature, historical time periods (anything pre-1940s), things that are bizarre and unusual (circus, burlesque, vaudeville, magic, curiosities, science, taxidermy) and of course other photographers (Tim Walker, Sarah Moon, Maggie Taylor, Roger Ballen, Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison just to name a few).
Environment: I have a studio in Montclair, a few blocks from my apartment. It has an office/workspace upstairs and a small shooting/gallery/workshop space downstairs, but I do most of my shooting on location. My apartment has become a weird home to many of the props from various shoots, from top hats and crystal balls to taxidermy and old typewriters. It's quite a strangely decorated space, but I feel pretty inspired there.
Philosophy: Have many adventures, preferably in a ball gown...
Anything that makes Toronto-based designer Yuta Onoda stop counts as inspiration.
