Inspired by the designers and illustrators from the mid-century movement, London-based illustrator Jordan Amy Lee enjoys paring her subjects down to simple representations while setting them in novel compositions with her distinctive process. “The main figures in my work usually consist of bold, block-color shapes cut from paper,” she explains. “I then create textures and details to overlay onto the block shapes to make the illustrations more involved, using mainly ink but also monoprinting, mark-making and paints—any medium, really.” Lee obtained her degree from Falmouth University in Falmouth, United Kingdom, where she learned the ins and outs of freelancing. “In the final year of the course, I went on a trip to New York that involved booking portfolio reviews with professionals across different creative industries,” she recalls. “One of my appointments resulted in me landing my first professional commission just as I was finishing up university, making the start of my career as a freelance illustrator.” From that serendipitous encounter, Lee has gone on to work with many clients including beauty brand Kiehl’s, chef Yotam Ottolenghi’s signature brand and publishing company Quadrille. In her career, she lets her curiosity as an illustrator guide her, exploring her perception of the world through her work. “Simply put, I believe it’s important as an illustrator to always be looking,” Lee says. “There is so much to see; you never know when inspiration will strike. Within the industry, I want to encourage people to stop and look at ordinary things and find them beautiful.”

Jordan Amy Lee is represented by production company and art rep agency Jelly.
