Duration: Five years.
Current location: Mirfield, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
Education: BA in graphic media communication from Bradford School of Arts.
Big break: I wouldn’t say I have had any big breaks yet. Hard work has helped me gain new clients, and keep the ones I have.
Influences: I’m strongly influenced by the history of design in all fields, from graphic design to product design, architecture to art. I was very much influenced by Russian avant-garde art while I was studying, as well as mid-century typography, which I think fueled my understanding of design. I’ve always loved the act of painting and the processes of print, and I try to get this into my work as much as possible.
Projects: I’m most proud of my personal work, the Visual Music series, as it let me bring together music and design. Client-wise, I am fond of the Intel and Lacoste posters; they were fantastic clients to work with, and I got to create work I loved.
Technique: I’m as happy working on setting out data visualizations from spread sheets as I am painting and creating pieces of illustration and print. Introducing things like music and TV/film into the work helps me create something unique. I don’t have a specific style; I feel that comes from being a designer first and an illustrator second. I keep my work open to new things.
