Established by cofounders Abraham Campillo, Mackenzie Freemire, Ben Mingo and Alex Tan, the Los Angeles–based design studio MOUTHWASH produces the type of graphic work they’d like to see realized. “The four of us grew up in Middle America and were majorly influenced by the rapidly changing era of social connection,” the founders say. “Alex, Abraham and Mackenzie connected in college and quickly became friends in real life as their early careers landed them at agencies in Los Angeles; Ben and Abraham met working together at the design firm BASIC.” Initially, the four worked together on personal projects, not knowing that these would lay the groundwork for MOUTHWASH. When the opportunity to create their own studio emerged, they jumped at the chance. Now with a team of designers and prestigious clients that include Japanese fashion brand Comme des Garçons, Nike and the Utah Jazz, MOUTHWASH has discovered their own secret formula to always creating impactful designs and campaigns. “As a studio, we have developed public-facing work quality values from deep, thoughtful conversations between the partners and our team, asking ourselves what makes the work we do together truly meaningful,” say Campillo, Freemire, Mingo and Tan. “We share these internally and externally for accountability and transparency as well as to create a culture grounded in a common goal.”
