Duration: I've been illustrating from my studio in Portland, Oregon, for four years.
Staff: I run a solo operation.
Education: Degrees in fine arts/printmaking and in creative writing/poetry from UW-Milwaukee (now the Peck School of the Arts) and I'm learning stone lithography from Tamarind Institute masters.
Cultural Influences: Mid-Century design and illustration are my major influences. Growing up in rural Wisconsin nurtured these influences, and with the influence of nature all around me, I took a cue from the leaves and animals and learned early on that simplicity is key.
Environment: A studio in Southeast Portland, in a large green building with many other creatives, overlooking the train tracks and south end of the Ross Island Bridge.
Philosophy: When it comes to color, shape, composition and form, always turn to nature to bring out the best in a line, be it a line drawn of ink, or one of words.
