Duration: Two years.
Location: Beijing, China.
Education: MA in illustration from the University of the Arts London (UAL).
Career path: The experience of studying at UAL influenced me a lot, and I forged my own style during those two years. Then I worked at visual effects company Pixomondo as a concept designer, creating animations for films and brands.
Cultural influences: I love animals, plants and astonishing landscapes in nature. Although I grew up in China, you won’t find many Chinese elements in my illustrations.
Favorite project: My book, Zoom. I made it to encourage myself to construct new worlds in illustration. I read it when I don’t know what to create next.
Work environment: A cozy place with talented people making wonderful things together.
Approach: The feelings that I spread in my illustrations, or, as my tutor used to say, “Melancholy paintings in muted colors.”
Aspirations: One of my goals is to make a cover for The New Yorker within the next five years. I also want to make more animations.
Philosophy: Be brave. Don’t be afraid of showing yourself.
