Duration: Three years.

Location: Montréal, Canada.

Education: BAA in illustration from Sheridan College, Oakville, in Ontario, Canada.

Career path: I started out at school with an interest in design and photography, but after taking a one-year design foundation course to help me decide, none of the subjects that were covered felt like a perfect fit. I was hesitant to go into illustration because it seemed almost too good to be true; it was hard to wrap my head around actually supporting myself just off of drawing pictures. Now, I know that a lot more goes into this field than what I imagined then—business skills, people skills and time management are a few examples—but I took the leap and never looked back!

“Be friendly, be punctual and work hard. Don’t hesitate to go above and beyond.”

Artistic influences: One of my biggest inspirations is nature. I love organic shapes, flowing lines and fresh, bold colors, and there is no better place to find that than in the great outdoors. I recently took a three week road trip across Canada, from Montréal to Vancouver Island. It was amazing to be reminded of what my own country has to offer, and really helped rejuvenate me from feeling overworked and burnt out.

Favorite project: Recently I completed work on an ad campaign for Swim Across America, a charity planning a world-record-breaking swim meet with all proceeds going towards childhood cancer research. Working on a large series of images for a campaign was a great experience, but more important, it felt good to have a part in a cause that actually improves lives.

Philosophy: Be friendly, be punctual and work hard. Don’t allow yourself to be walked all over, but don’t hesitate to go above and beyond.
